About Me

Ehehe... my vile corruption of a breathless quote by that ballerina in Pedro Almodovar's "Talk to Her"... from the earth the ethereal, from beasts flowers, and from man woman and vice versa...
Something Lovely
Wednesday, December 28, 2005

Watched "King Kong", "The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe", "Pride and Prejudice", "Dogville", "The Witches of Eastwick", and various others. Tilda Swinton was magnificent as usual, though the movie proved strangely stilted. Marvellous if the animals and Narnian trees and things had been dinky in the way that Hitchhiker's was, but they reeked of Hollywood. Still, the children managed to be tolerable, which was most important. Keira Knightley was a strange Elizabeth, but the new Mr. Darcy embodied to a somewhat greater extent Austen's vision than Colin Firth. Stately homes were pictured in glory, as were mud and vast vistas that managed to convey expanse and coziness very postcardishly.
Read "Tender is the Night" and "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell", which was long but didn't feel it. It isn't "the best fantastic novel in the English language of the past 70 years" as Neil Gaiman says, still it was diverting enough to stay awake for.
Various eaties and some singing, with the guys from my CG at Clementi.
What else, lazing around as usual. Lovely showery weather and bright middays.
